Il GTA, Grande Traversata delle Alpi, è un itinerario escursionistico che unisce tutto l'arco alpino occidentale di Piemonte si articola su una fitta rete di sentieri e posti tappa.
Il percorso complessivo della GTA forma un itinerario di circa 1000 km, un grande trekking sulle montagne piemontese.
Ogni tappa della GTA comporta dalle cinque alle otto ore di marcia, di norma su mulattiere e facili sentieri che permettono di passare di valle in valle valicando i passi più accessibili. I sentieri sono identificati da una segnaletica bianca e rossa e anche da bandierine metalliche che riportano il logo GTA.
Al termine di ogni tappa si trovano le strutture ricettive della GTA oppure i rifugi del Club Alpino Italiano.
