The Mountains of Montenegro is Rudolf Abraham’s Cicerone guide to the diverse walking opportunities in one of the least visited and wildest mountain scenery in Europe. The guide covers the finest mountain areas in Montenegro and many of the walks and treks described have well-marked trails and are easily accessible for walkers of all abilities. The book is also the first comprehensive dedicated English language guide to the region.
The guide is structured into 8 main parts - Orjen, Lovcen, Durmitor, Bjelasica, Komovi, Kucka Krajina, Prokletije and Other Areas reflecting the different mountain ranges of Montenegro. Many of the walks in each section are multi-day routes split into different stages, allowing walkers the choice to complete the whole route or select a relevant day’s walk. Each route has an Information Box detailing difficulty ratings, time, huts and camping, access to water, recommended maps and local transport options. A detailed introduction gives practical advice on when to visit, weather forecasts, getting there, local transport, accommodation and equipment and camping, alongside other useful consideration for walkers. There are also dedicated sections on Geology, Geography, History, Culture and Food and Drink. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by colour sketch diagrams mapping the route as well as colour photographs illustrating some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes of this unexplored corner of Europe.
